Salary levels vary considerably, depending on the level of responsibility, length of service, and the type, size and location of the advertising and marketing. Senior managers in large companies can earn more than their counterparts in small enterprises. Moreover, salaries in large metropolitan areas like New York are higher than those of smaller cities.

Advertising and marketing managers are provided with comfortable offices, near the departments they lead. Senior managers may have large offices, luxurious and can enjoy privileges such as dining executives, company cars, country club memberships, and liberal expense accounts.

Managers often work long hours under intense pressure to meet advertising and marketing objectives. Weeks of work that consists of 55-60 hours at the office is not unusual, in fact, some senior managers spend up to 80 hours each week. These long time limits of time available for family and leisure activities.

Advertising and marketing companies are usually very full of energy and are both physically and psychologically interesting places to work. Managers work with other team in a creative environment, where they exchange a lot of ideas among colleagues. As timing is critical in marketing and advertising campaigns, it is important that the administrator has the ability to handle pressure and stress effectively. Patience and flexibility are also essential, as are organizational skills and time management.

In general, the use of advertising and marketing managers and executives are expected to grow faster than average during the coming years, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Many jobs will result from managers being promoted to higher positions, to retire or leave their positions to start their own businesses. Even so, the compensation and prestige of these positions are highly sought after and competition for vacancies is intense. College graduates with experience, a high level of creativity and strong communication skills should have the best job opportunities.

The outlook for the advertising industry and marketing is closely tied to the economy in general. When the economy is good, business is expanding both in terms of production of the company and the number of people it employs, which creates a need for more managers. In economic crisis, companies often lay off employees and cut production, reducing the need for administrators.
